Rail and wheel interaction is one of the most underlying aspects of railway systems. Instruments and measurement devices giving critical information on flange thickness reduction should be reliable, efficient, and effective. From the previous research, the effect of temperature on the inductive sensor was not considered and noises filtered using non-real-time data (filtering after the train is in depot). This research focuses on designing a real-time recursive digital filter, simulate for the real-time measured signal, and do hardware implementation of the filter for the onboard measurement system based on the inductive sensing technology under normal train operations. Experimental procedures will be carried out to test the information model of the filter in a LabView program and Simulink. Simulation using the two software will be used carried out comparing their runtime for processing of the signal. Afterwards a suitable hardware application of IIR digital filter will be implemented for real-time filtering. IIR digital filter design using FPGAs is proposed because of its suitable features in terms of cost, less time and reliability. Experimental results data filtered in real-time will be presented as accuracy and precision of the system will be measured. Application: safety enhancement and monitoring, especially for autonomous railway vehicles.
