142559 - Optimal Critical Design Parameters for Car’s Aesthetic Appearance Design
This paper is devoted to looking for the critical aesthetic feature parameters for controlling and determining an auto's aesthetic appearance design. First, the composition of vehicles' aesthetic features in markets was analyzed and represented with representative curves. Take the control parameters in the representative curves as the critical aesthetic feature parameters to model and control the vehicle's virtual shapes. After setting up virtual models of cars with different values of such critical design parameters, the survey data between the critical design parameters and the vehicle's aesthetic evaluation values described by five linguistic evaluation word pairs were collected through a questionnaire survey. Then, the aesthetic evaluation curves corresponding to the critical design parameters are obtained with the three-layer BPN network. The aesthetic evaluation curves corresponding to the typical critical design parameters figured out through the curve-fitting approach demonstrate that the customers' harmonious feeling for cars is positively correlated with the soft feature but negatively associated with the avant-garde feature. Cars with harmonious characteristics are often the most important and favored by customers. Optimization results show that the optimal car's appearance is consistent with ordinary customers' purchasing attitudes toward vehicles. The esthetic evaluation curves corresponding to the critical aesthetic design parameters will be practical and valuable in selecting design parameters for the vehicle's aesthetic appearance.
