91258 - Prediction of the Acceleration Applied to Driver’s Upper Body During Driving Using Narx Algorithm
Lane keeping assistance system (LKAS) is one of the technologies of the advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). It controls the steering wheel of vehicle when the vehicle leaves the currently driving lane to return the original driving lane. When steering wheel is operated, torque and moment are occurred and transmitted to the driver’s upper body because driver always should hold steering wheel during driving. This torque has possibility to make the driver feel uncomfortable and can also cause injury if driver exposed for a long time. In this study, we designed a basic algorithm using nonlinear autoregressive exogenous (NARX) neural network to predict the acceleration which applied to driver’s upper body using steering wheel angle data during driving. Vehicle test was conducted to obtain steering wheel angle data and acceleration data at driver’s upper body using inertia measurement unit (IMU) sensor for learning of algorithm. As a result of simulation using designed algorithm, it was confirmed that there is a possibility to make an accurate prediction using steering wheel angle data. In further studies, it is necessary to study whether it can be applied even when more data are used and additional study will be conducted to calculate moment and torque applied driver’s upper body through acceleration predicted from algorithm.
